Upper-Level (Junior and Senior) Courses

Courses numbered 300-499 are for upper-level students and generally require advanced knowledge.

For bachelor's degrees, at least 30 hours must be earned in upper-level courses. At least 15 hours of coursework at the upper level are required in the major field. These 15 hours are counted toward the requirement of 30 upper-level credit hours. On a case-by-case basis, courses taken at the 200-level from a nationally accredited institution are eligible for evaluation by the department faculty and division chair, or Provost as the transfer equivalent of a 300-level course requirement at CMU. Approved courses will be counted toward the required 15 upper-level credit hours in the major field and the 30 upper-level credit hours required for degree completion.  A maximum of 6 hours may be applied to the upper-level requirements.
